The University of Johannesburg has banned media from entering campus to cover the student protests.

Private security from the Fidelity Group drove protesting students off campus using their batons, shields and pepper spray. They then proceeded to close the main gate of the university.

Students retaliated by throwing rocks in the direction of the security. Private security then proceeded to leave the campus property and chase students into a nearby park, flinging rocks in the direction of the students and the nearby houses.
