Zuma appoints new SIU head

Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has appointed advocate Jan Lekhoa Mothibi as the new head of the Special Investigating Unit (SIU).

“Adv Mothibi is currently the executive director for legal, governance, risk and compliance at Medscheme Holdings,” the Presidency said in a statement.

“Adv Mothibi has held executive and senior management positions in both the public and private sectors, including Standard Bank, Nedbank, and the South African receiver of revenue, Sars.”

Mothibi replaces advocate Gerhard Wilhelm Visagie who was the acting head of the SIU, pending the appointment of a permanent head

The appointment of Visagie followed the resignation of advocate Vas Soni for personal reasons at the beginning of last year.

“We congratulate advocate Mothibi for his appointment and wish him all the best in his new responsibilities of the investigation of corruption and maladministration,” Zuma said.
